Golden Vietnam Photography Workshop

Photograph Vietnam at the height of the harvest season on the Golden Vietnam Photography Workshop. This 10-day journey is built around golden rice terraces, rural life, cultural traditions, and the historic cities of Central Vietnam. With a maximum of six photographers, the workshop combines carefully timed photography sessions with hands-on instruction in composition, light, landscape, people, and visual storytelling. It is designed for photographers of all skill levels who want to strengthen their photography while building a diverse portfolio of Vietnam.

Itinerary

We begin the workshop by leaving Hanoi for a traditional bamboo craft village, where the group photographs artisans weaving fishing baskets. The session focuses on hand movements, repetition, geometry, environmental portraits, and small details within the working space. In the late afternoon, we return to Hanoi for a welcome dinner and an introduction to the photographic approach for the days ahead. Overnight at Grand Plaza Hanoi or Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha.

We start the day among vivid crimson incense bundles, using color, repetition, and layered compositions to create strong environmental portraits. From there, we continue to a traditional soy sauce workshop, where rows of ceramic jars form natural lines and graphic patterns. Later in the day, the group photographs colorful sleeping mat production, exploring texture, rhythm, and more abstract compositions. Overnight at Grand Plaza Hanoi or Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha.

The morning begins with local women working among water lilies near Hanoi. We photograph reflections, symmetry, color relationships, and simple compositions using medium telephoto lenses and low viewpoints. Later, we continue to Duong Lam Ancient Village, where narrow alleys, laterite houses, weathered surfaces, and local residents provide opportunities for environmental portraits and documentary photography. After leaving Hanoi, we make our way toward Tu Le Valley and begin photographing the layered rice terraces as the light develops across the mountains. Wide-angle lenses work well for the broader landscape, while telephoto lenses help isolate patterns, layers, and small figures within the fields. We continue toward Mu Cang Chai, using the softer afternoon light to work with depth, texture, and color in the terraces. Overnight at Garrya Mu Cang Chai Resort.

We begin before sunrise at Mam Xoi viewpoint, photographing the circular terraces as the first light reaches the valley. Throughout the morning, the group works with wide views, compressed telephoto layers, and careful placement of small human elements within the landscape. Later, we photograph Hmong people in their working environment before finishing the day at the horseshoe-shaped terraces, where the curves and late-afternoon light create strong graphic compositions. After breakfast, we leave the mountains of Mu Cang Chai and return toward Hanoi for our domestic flight to Hue. After checking into Melia Vinpearl Hue, the evening is kept relatively relaxed, with an optional photography session along the Perfume River. This is a good opportunity to work with reflections, illuminated architecture, mixed light, and longer exposures.

We begin the day inside Hue’s Imperial City, photographing models in traditional dress among gates, corridors, courtyards, and historic architecture. The session focuses on environmental portraiture, framing, symmetry, color, and the relationship between the subject and surrounding space. Later, we photograph fishermen casting nets and artisans in a traditional paper flower village. As evening approaches, the group works through blue hour along the Perfume River before finishing with candlelight photography at an ancient temple.

The day begins before sunrise on Hue’s lagoon, where the group photographs fishermen, traditional boats, nets, reflections, and the subtle color of early morning light. The quiet water allows us to work with both clean compositions and slower shutter speeds when conditions permit. After breakfast, we travel to Ba Na Hills near Da Nang. In the afternoon, we photograph the Golden Bridge from different viewpoints, concentrating on architecture, scale, leading lines, changing mist, and the softer light toward the end of the day.

We open the day with sunrise photography at the Golden Bridge, using the early light and quieter conditions to explore different compositions before the area becomes busy. After breakfast, we descend to Son Tra Peninsula for red-shanked douc langur photography. Here, the focus shifts to telephoto technique, subject isolation, clean backgrounds, gesture, and timing. In the afternoon, we continue to Hoi An and check into Wafaifo Hoi An Hotel before an evening session among the lantern-lit streets.

Our final morning begins at a local artist’s studio, where large hand-painted traditional masks offer strong opportunities to work with color, texture, scale, and graphic composition. We then move into a final portrait session with an elderly local subject, focusing on expression, natural light, background control, and simple framing. After the session, we transfer to Da Nang International Airport, arriving at approximately 12:00 PM for departure.
